In recognition of Elder Abuse Awareness Month, the Cortland County Office for Aging/NY Connects and Cortland County Adult Protective Services will co-host a community awareness event focused on preventing elder abuse and neglect. The event will be held on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, Monday, June 15, at 1:00 p.m. on the front steps of the Cortland County Office Building, located at 60 Central Avenue in Cortland. In the event of inclement weather, the program will move indoors to the County Office Building second-floor auditorium. Speakers will include representatives from County Administration, the Cortland County Chamber of Commerce, City Police, Cortland County Office for Aging, NY Connects, Tompkins Community Bank, and the Jewish Home of Central New York. The event’s purpose is to “Shine a Light” on elder abuse prevention by increasing public awareness of this often-hidden issue and promoting understanding of available support and prevention resources.
